About Us

The Anton B. Urban Funeral Home is family owned and operated with roots in both the Philadelphia and Ambler areas.  In 1950, Anton B. Urban, a graduate of Ambler High School and veteran of WWII, opened his first funeral home on Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia, which remained in operation until 1980.  In 1964, Anton and Trudy Urban relocated their family to the present funeral home on Bethlehem Pike in Ambler.

Although the Philadelphia facility was closed in 1980, we continued to serve families in and around the Philadelphia area. Anton and Trudy’s son Peter “Skip” Urban joined the family profession as a licensed Funeral Director in 1980.  Anton died unexpectedly in February 1988.

In July of 2000, a fully handicapped accessible 7,000 square foot addition was built on to the original 100-year-old building, increasing our service areas, arrangement office and selection rooms. The additional space allows us to better serve our families more effectively in their time of need.

Skip Urban, Trudy Urban and Peter Gers are currently the licensed funeral directors in our full service funeral home. We offer traditional and non-traditional services for people of all races and faiths, as well as traditional burial, cremation or memorial services. 

The members of the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home staff are active participants in the greater Ambler area community. We are members of the International Order of the Golden Rule, an organization of independently owned and operated funeral homes around the world, National Funeral Directors Association, Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, Montgomery County Funeral Directors Association, Rotary Club of Ambler, Wissahickon Volunteer Fire Company, St. Anthony of Padua Church, St. Alphonsus Church, St. Alphonsus Senior Citizens, Ambler Main Street, Knights of Columbus Notre Dame Council and many more. 

 The Anton B. Urban Funeral Home has provided the most dignified and professional service to families in their time of need and will continue to do so in an empathetic manner.
