Frank J Markus
Frank J Markus, 90 of Ambler PA, died Friday in the Pembroke
Health and Rehab Center West Chester, PA after a brief stay.
Born in Mahanoy City, PA, he was the son of the late Stephen and
Mary (nee Smellowsky) Markus.
He served in the US Navy Submarine Service aboard the USS S-14,
the USS Flasher, the USS Tarpon and the USS Seadog from 1942 to
1947.
He was an Automotive Assembler, employed by Budd Company in
Philadelphia prior to his retirement in 1975.
Mr. Markus was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in
Ambler, US Submarine Veterans World War II Association, Delaware
Chapter "Silent Service", Moose Lodge # 1539 of Sellersville
since 1949, VFW Post # 1420 of Mahanoy City.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Rosalie P.
Markus (nee Burke) in 1996 and his brothers and sisters: Jake,
Joseph, Andrew, Mary, Anna and Josephine.
He is survived by his children Frank J. (Laura) Markus of
Germantown, MD and Rosalind M. (Thomas) Norris of West Chester,
PA. He is the loving grandfather of Brian J (Marga) and Breanna
L. Markus and T. Bradford and Sarah B. Norris and the great
grandfather of Natalia Markus. He is also survived by his sister
Helen Bross of Dunmore, PA and brother Stephen Markus of
Middletown, PA along with his companion Marion Philomeno of
Norristown, PA. with whom he shared his love of dancing, both
ballroom and swing, along with several senior citizen members.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, December 27, 2008 from
9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua Church
Forrest Avenue, Ambler with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM with Rev.
Msgr. Stephen P. McHenry, Pastor as Celebrant Interment will be
in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ambler.
